This is an attempt to make a GI-Joe-compatible robot inspired by the "Drones" from the 1972 Science Fiction classic "Silent Running." He's designed to be a companion to the "Scientific Adventurer."
"I needed a mobile computer system with scanning, communications, and repair capabilities -- even limited First Aid ability -- to assist me in some of my more hazardous missions."
"He needed to be capable of independent action, in case i was, er, unavailable."
"He has several Interface Panels capable of acting as Comminations Units, Scanners, Sensors, Floodlights, and more."
"He's much more agile than you might think, and the AI built into his mainframe manages his movements effortlessly. I sometimes think that more goes on in that AI than I bargained for when I programmed the routines for it."
"He has a well-articulated arm with capability of pre-selecting any of a number of hands -- or, more properly, Remote Manipulators"
"As you can see, the legs are surprisingly well-articulated: He can stand flat-footed on a surprisingly uneven surface."
"He has a retractable antenna for long distance communications."
The body is part of a moveable gutter-spout. The louvered section is cut from an old radio, and edged in blue tape. I'll probably make that a better rim. The "Interface Panels" are the body of the scanner from the "Save the Tiger" set and a 9" Playmates "Star Trek" "Data PADD." The Arm is constructed of two of the famous "Flying Model Airplane" hinges, and the antennae/attach points on the Drone's sides are blades from "Barbie" skater skates. The legs are a poseable doll skeleton covered with black "Split Flex Tubing" and feet from the "RoboCop" "Dog Robot."
